Vanessa Marcil is playing a nanny, but not the naughty type. Rather, the Las Vegas alumna took a gamble by turning things around and playing closer to her true bookworm self in the Hallmark Channel movie The Nanny Express (premiering Saturday at 9 pm/ET).

Marcil plays Kate Hewitt, an aspiring teacher who finds herself caring for the two children of a widower (Brennan Elliot). Can Kate succeed where the previous "run-out-of-town" nannies left off, all the while tending to her ailing father (Dean Stockwell)? And might she find love with her new wards' dad along the way? Marcil shared a look at why she chose this different role.

TVGuide.com: This was a somewhat different role for you, isn't it?
Vanessa Marcil: My agent called me and was like, "You're going to love this character", and it was like no one I had ever played before. I had been volunteering at my son's school this year, and I've always thought teachers were incredible, but to watch them on a daily basis you truly realize how teachers and full-time, stay-at-home mothers are the heroes of our world. I mean, I'm always like the "feisty sexpot."

TVGuide.com: Yeah, I saw that quote about how, because you're the "dark-haired curvy girl," you always get cast as the vixen.
Marcil: Yeah, I'm not bad, I'm just drawn that way. So I was like, "Can I play this girl?" To be so graceful in the face of adversity with these kids and to get to have a dad � I've never played a character that had a dad � I was inspired to be more like her.

TVGuide.com: After playing Kate, did you come to feel she was actually closer to yourself than you originally thought?
Marcil: Oh, for sure. You know that I'm actually much more of a nerd and a bookworm and a homebody than all the sassy, ballsy characters I always play. They do stuff that I would never normally do.

TVGuide.com: As Kate tries to manage this guy's handful-of-a-teenage daughter, did you get to thinking, "Oh my god � what am I going to do when my son Kassius [now 6 1/2] is this age?"
Marcil: No, because that seems unfathomable to me. It seems so far away. And yet he's getting so smart and incredibly creative, and he says really profound things. The other day, he said, "Mommy, I'm really sad that you got your stomach cut open. That must have hurt." I go, "Yeah, sweetie, but I was in labor for two days, and it was worth it because you came out." [Laughs] He says, "Well, if I'm a woman in my next lifetime, I don't want a birth canal." Um, what?!

TVGuide.com: Do you feel like you won the on-screen dad lottery with Dean Stockwell (Quantum Leap)?
Marcil: When [the producers of Las Vegas] said Jimmy Caan was doing it, we were like, "OK, where do we sign?" It was kind of the same situation with this. "Dean Stockwell is going to play my father? Where do I sign?" He was so incredible. He has a really dry wit, which is my favorite kind, so I'd start to get comfortable around him. But then you get into these scenes and he's such a pro, it's like a light switch. He'd become so incredibly powerful that I was like, "Oh no, I'm not going to be able to hold it together."

TVGuide.com: Las Vegas fans email me every couple of weeks hoping for some closure. They're not going to get any, are they? [The NBC series was abruptly cancelled last TV season during the WGA strike.]
Marcil: No. I mean, who knows in our business. Nothing surprises me anymore. But I think it would have happened by now.

TVGuide.com: You know what? Ten years from now, the CW can do LV: The Next Generation.
Marcil: Exactly. There you go!

TVGuide.com: Would you be open to another series regular role?
Marcil: No. I was so not wanting to take a series regular gig when I took Las Vegas; who knew it would last five years? Shows usually don't. Kassius had just been born and he could be on the set with me all the time, but he's in school now, so it'd mean taking a lot of time away from him. I love working at his school and [acting] a little bit. I'm looking to balance it all a bit more while he's young.

TVGuide.com: So you're OK just doing the occasional handful of episodes of Lipstick Jungle?
Marcil: Yeah, exactly. That feels really right to me right now.

TVGuide.com: Have you caught Brian [Austin Green, Kassius' father and Marcil's ex-boyfriend] on Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles?
Marcil: I've seen him, and he's amazing. He's always amazing. That was evident to me when we were on 90210 together. He's especially great with even heavier stuff like [Terminator].

TVGuide.com: What other TV do you like these days?
Marcil: We watch Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Daily Show � I mean, if Jon Stewart filed his toenails, we'd watch it. We watch Jeremy Piven scenes on Entourage and fast-forward through the rest. Jeremy Piven is that show, he's a genius.

TVGuide.com: Lastly, tell me about your "Grateful List."
Marcil: The Grateful List is one of the millions of things that Oprah told me about when I met her at, like, 22 that kind of changed my life. Every night, I write down everything I feel grateful for. It's hard to stay with any kind of negative thought when you realize all the things you have to be grateful for. Now Kassius has a little journal, and he writes down what he's grateful for. It's a great thing.

Ok, Chloe and Billy are so hot together. I want her to have the baby fast and have hot monkey sex with Billy before that icky blah Lily gets her paws into him. Chloe, Billy, Cane and any actress other than this one who plays Lily will be the best quad for 09.

I have really started to get into this soap. It's like they are so many talented actors but they need to be in a cohesive group. I think Shayne and Dinah are so hot. I really want to see them work as a couple, but go through the trials and tribulations. Bill and Lizzie I so love them.

ATWT Discussion: Week of January 5th

I was home last week on a mini-vacation and tuned in to ATWT on Friday. Surprisingly I was genuinely entertained with the show (all except Liberty, though I love Parker). I'm thinking of picking it back up on a regular basis. I am loving Jon Lindstrom as Craig. I think he's playing it well, and he's a much better recast than the other guy.

I'm really intrigued by Craig/Carly. I think Maura and Jon have great chemistry together.

The Dusty story lured me in too. The redhead looks eerily like Jennifer Ferin. It freaks me out and makes me miss the Jen character.

nuLucy (who I hear is on her way out) looks like Martha Byrne a bit. It's freaky.

I haven't seen nuMaddie, but nuJade looks interesting. She's kinda cute.

DAYS: When will Days Actually get a TEEN Set?

Stephanie, Chelsea and Max are not Teens. The only one who is a teen is Melanie and i find it completely unrealistic for her to go after a 30 year old corporate big shot like Philip. She is 18 and he is 30.

Melanie is my favorite character on the show, i actually don't want her to fall in love. I want her to continue to manipulate etc.

I have no clue whatsoever why Stephanie and Chloe would have any thing to bond over. Yes, Chloe dated Phillip in High School and Stephanie is now, but who is Chloe to offer up her observations about Phillip's romantic life. She was bitchy, but I have to admit, I love bitchy Chloe. Stephanie is growing some balls too. She was right back at her with attitude and I don't blame her.

Is Luis from Passions ever going to meet anyone other than Sami? When did Sami start becoming a practicing Catholic? Was that around the time that she slipped a mickey into Austin's drink or stole baby Belle? Or when she lied and said that Will was Austin's instead of Lucas'. It really made me laugh.

Ok, let's just skip the Emmys altogether and just give the award to Melissa Clare Egan. Amazing much? She makes crazy look good. What is that line from that Britney song, "Youre crazy, I got your crazy?" That would rock as a banner with Annie holding the knife to Greenlee (hint hint Dee-licious)

I have been kinda fed up with Krystal lately, but her grief really touches me. My Mom threw tantrums and was deeply depressed when my Dad passed. I almost feel like I am a friend of Krystal's and I am thinking, "Get over it, you have to move on". Yet who am I to judge when you lose your child? I will never know. I am so torn, and that is what is making it a fantastic story.

And I am so falling in love with Amanda and JR. But who sends alcohol as a Christmas Gift to a home where an alcoholic lives?

according to celebrity-babies.com Guiding Light Actress Jessica Leccia and her husband Brian Malloy are expecting their first child in June. The two married in May of this year.

Contgrats to the couple. I wish them all the best, and let's hope for another June 4th baby. What a great day!!!!!!!! (so June 4th is my birthday)

Jake/Amanda on 12/22 show

I really liked that they had Jake be a man on today's show and apologize to Amanda for his outrageous comments towards her. However, Amanda was right to just accept it and tell him to move right on since what he said was as demeaning, hurtful, and disgusting as you can get. But can they possibly get back together? I still hope this happens due to the couple's amazing chemistry!

I have to say that I am glad Tess finally learned the truth. But I kinda wonder what/if she will let Jess know? I like that Brody is seeing all parts of her. It adds a lot of layers to their relationship. I liked seeing Viki and Clint interacting. But I thought the ornament thing was odd for one reason. He never mentioned one for Bree. He said that he did one for Jessica, but not Bree? I can understand if he just thought of it, but he could have gotten one for her. I think if that is really one of my only complaints, I think they are doing good.

Todd's hearing...is Nora the worst DA in history? She just got stampeded. John didn't help Marty at all. Being sarcastic pretty much killed the case. Nora should have propped him up and made him look good. Although the Starr stuff will be good.

Yay!!!! We get to see Brenda!!! I got this from Daytime Confidential

At 8pm, we've got one from 1996, where Sonny gets into the holiday spirit by selling Christmas trees (?!?); meanwhile, the newly minted "Jason Morgan" celebrates the day with Lila and Robin, and Jax and Brenda spend the yuletide together. We get to see Lila and Brenda? Cue screams!

At 9pm, it's a 1998 episode featuring classic Lucky and Liz. We're talking Jonathan Jackson as Lucky, so this is back in the day. Speaking of old familiar faces, the hour also features Amber Tamblyn as Emily, and a reading of the Christmas story by (a then still alive) Alan at General Hospital.

At 10pm, we fast forward to 2004 -- where Ric and Alexis are rescued from the woods in enough time to celebrate Kristina's christening with Sonny and Carly. Emily, still alive and now looking like Natalia Livingston, shares Christmas dinner with a jailed Nikolas. It's some classic Nik/Em romance, people!

After watching the new General Hospital promo, I guess I am supposed to be happy about the tease of the reunion of Lucky and Liz, and Jason and Sam. But instead I find myself less happy, and more angry. How am I, a fan of the show supposed to just sit here and have this crap spoon fed to me and be happy? Alas; Bob Guza and Brian Frons, you have failed. I am not one of those fans who will continually sit and watch crap (which is what General Hospital is continually providing).
Some may say my opinion is tainted by my love for the alternatives of these couplings, Lucky and Sam, and Jason and Elizabeth. This; however, is not the case. I can accept that Jason and Elizabeth cannot be together. I could accept Sam and Lucky breaking up. Not happily, but I could do it. But don�t you Bob Guza and Brian Frons sit there and say that Jason and Sam have some kind of undying love. As a former fan of this pair, I don�t buy it for one second. This is the same man, who said to Sam that he would kill her if he came near Elizabeth and her children. After she stood by and watched Jake get kidnapped chalking it up to a, and I quote, �Moment of weakness.�
A man who threatened to kill the woman he is supposed to love, that women idly standing by while his son is kidnapped. They are supposed to create or be the model for undying love. She got shot because his dangerous lifestyle. The one he could walk away from at any moment, but yet chooses not to. The woman who was coming away from being an adrenaline junkie, to falling in love with for lack of a better phrase, �the safe guy.� These two people, who have grown to barely tolerate the lover are suppose to be the other�s one true pair. I must have a blindfold on, did I miss something? Have they been having secret sex all over the penthouse? I didn�t think so.
Then Lucky and Liz, the pair personally bore me to tears. I like the idea of their dynamic when they are together. But they do nothing for me personally, which I have been less than shy about. I feel like Lucky and Liz really have come to a point were being with each other would only create a dry spell for both characters. I really feel Bob Guza and his writing team wouldn�t even know what to do with them. I don�t even think that right now a Lucky and Liz reunion is what this storyline should even be building up to. To me I just don�t feel like right now is the right time for a Lucky and Liz reunion.
Lucky and Liz will always have a connection, and I understand that. Given a choice between JaSam and LnL2, I would choose LnL2 every time. Even though they bore me that badly. JaSam have just grown so apart, and such a rift has been put in-between them that pairing them together now no matter how well written would be unbelievable for me. At least after the small rift after Jake�s paternity was revealed Lucky and Liz have been able to find a common ground and remain friends. I could buy a reunion of these two, but right now is just not the time for a reunion of these two.
If they are going to break up Liason, fine, break them up. I�m not happy about it, and I don�t have to be happy about it. They can do other things; can�t Elizabeth be single for a while? Give Jason some time to accept the decision he has made. Maybe even one last and final Liason talk, where Elizabeth tells Jason everything she dreamed about, everything they could have had and then tells Jason that if he had just chosen to leave the mob he could have had all of that. I just don�t understand why this show has to be so mob centered. If this happens, I hope everyone who is excited is happy. As the Quatermaines fade further into the background, legacy characters continue to die off, the hospital fades out more and more, and then the show�s roots get changed completely.
Gloria Monty is spinning in her grave. Brian Frons, and Bob Guza should be ashamed of themselves. Taking a show that was as legendary as General Hospital, and dragging it down to a state that is barely watchable.

DAYS: What is Dena Higley's obsession with Triangles?

Seriously, we have like how many triangles right now or Quads whatever, can this woman write anything else.Unstead of triangles, or Max bang his Niece Chelsea and have Melanie go after a man, half her age. Why not do a story that DOES NOT involve a triangle or uncle/niece(max and chelsea). DO WE MUST HAVE A FREAKING TRIANGLE EVERY MONTH

Why not actually give Max and Melanie a brother/sister story together that will show Melanie's emotions about wanting to talk to her brother again.

Like have Max get into a car accident and he slips into a coma, which will devastate his sister(melanie), his ex girlfriend(stephanie) and his mom(caroline). But it will mostly be from Melanie and Caroline's point of view and show off Molly Burnett(mel) and Peggy McCay(caroline) amazing acting skills.

We can get some great scenes in the chapel with Melanie and Caroline which can be great with the perfect dialogue and we know the acting will be there. The scene could end with Melanie and Caroline sitting on the bench praying for Max, Melanie sees how broken Max's mom is, so she puts her arms around her.

Then we can have a powerful scenes at Max's bedside with Melanie. Like Mel walks into Max's room, Chelsea and Stephanie in there, there is a nice moments with the three girls. At Max's bedside, Melanie completely breaks down, with holding her brothers hand, she tells him, "she never had someone care for her like he does". Tears run down her face and she lays down by her brother crying.

We then pan out to Caroline, Stephanie and Chelsea looking in a window. Chelsea makes a comment, "so she does have a heart after all". Stephanie says," i think,she always have one but she hides it pretty good".

then when Max wakes up, Steph/Chelsea/Caroline/Bo/Hope/Steve/Kayla are at his bedside. First person Max wants to see is his sister Melanie.

Meanwhile, Melanie is outside of the hospital having a nice scene with NICOLE WALKER. Melanie listens to Nicole and Nicole listens to Melanie. Mel brings up, she never had noone in her life that cares for her more then Max.Nicole brings up, how about a mother. Melanie brings up her father told her mother died when she was a baby. When Nicole was going to talk, Stephanie comes to Melanie, saying Max is awake. Nicole smiles and says bye but then she has a flashback to when she was in college with trent and in the hospital giving birth.

Nicole just stares and says, "My Daughter".

Melanie comes into Max's room all teary eyed and throws her arms around her brother.

This surly will show Molly Burnett's amazing acting skills and get her a Emmy
