90210 looks at life through the eyes of Annie Mills (Shenae Grimes) and her brother Dixon (Tristan Wilds), whose first day at West Beverly Hills High School leaves no doubt they're not in Kansas anymore. The Mills family, including dad Harry (Rob Estes) and mom Debbie (Lori Loughlin), has relocated to Beverly Hills to keep an eye on Harry's mother Tabitha (Jessica Walter), a feisty-but-faded former television star and a charter member of the Betty Ford Clinic. For Annie and Dixon, the awkwardness of being the new kids is made worse by the fact that their dad has taken a job as the high school principal. The school is one big culture shock for Annie, a sweet and friendly girl with a passion for the theater, and Dixon, a star athlete and scholar who was adopted by the Mills family after they took him in as a foster child. Annie and Dixon have a close sibling relationship, which they'll need to help them cope with all the new cliques and classmates, including Naomi (AnnaLynne McCord), a hot, spoiled, rich girl; Ethan (Dustin Milligan), a popular jock whose abilities rival Dixon's; Navid (Michael Steger), an aspiring reporter who heads up the school's daily newscast; and Silver (Jessica Stroup), a rebel who produces and stars in a YouTube-type video series. Even the faculty seems hip and sophisticated at WBHHS, such as smart and funny teacher Ryan Matthews (Ryan Eggold) and beautiful guidance counselor Kelly Taylor (guest star Jennie Garth). The Mills family has just begun to realize how much their lives are about to change.

LOS ANGELES - The most popular zip code on television is back.
The CW network is developing a contemporary spinoff of Aaron Spelling’s seminal 1990s teen soap “Beverly Hills, 90210,” sources said.
Details on the project — including which if any of the characters on the original series will make the transition to the spinoff — remain sketchy.
The spinoff, which is close to getting a writer, has been put on the fast track by the network. It is expected to decide whether to order a pilot by the end of the month.
According to sources, “Beverly Hills, 90210” creator Darren Star is not involved.
This would be the second spinoff from the series about privileged teens living in Beverly Hills, which aired on Fox from 1990-2000. The first one, the Star-created “Melrose Place,” had a successful seven-year run on Fox. It didn’t feature any major characters from “Beverly Hills.”
A teen soap set in posh Beverly Hills would be a perfect companion to the CW’s buzzworthy freshman drama “Gossip Girl,” which revolves around rich teens living in Manhattan.
Spinoffs are hot this development season. Fox is developing two: “Cleveland,” centered on the henpecked character from the hit animated comedy “Family Guy,” and a “Prison Break” offshoot set at a female prison.
Last year, ABC spun off its medical juggernaut “Grey’s Anatomy” into “Private Practice.”
The CW also has a spinoff on its schedule, the “Girlfriends” offshoot “The Game.”

LOS ANGELES - Meet the Mills, the three-generational Beverly Hills clan at the center of the CW’s contemporary “Beverly Hills, 90210” spinoff.
A detailed breakdown for the pilot, released Monday night, sheds more light on the plot and the characters of the untitled show.
Rob Thomas (”Dawson’s Creek,” “Veronica Mars”) is writing the spinoff, which, like the original “90210,” revolves around a family with two teen kids the same age — a boy and a girl — who recently moved from the Midwest to Beverly Hills.
But this time, the dad, Harry Mills, is a Beverly Hills High alum who moved after graduation and settled in East St. Louis. He is forced to come back when his 1970s movie star mother’s alcohol problem gets out of control. Joining him are his wife, Celia, a former Olympic medalist; biological daughter Annie; and adopted son Dixon.
The script breakdown includes five other characters, four of them 16-year-old students at West Beverly Hills High. None appears directly related to any of the characters on the original series, although 16-year-old Daphne Silver and her twentysomething brother, Max Silver, have the same last name as David Silver (Brian Austin Green), who married Donna Martin (Tori Spelling) in the original “90210” series finale.
Although Max may be too old to be David’s son, it nevertheless is intriguing that he and his sister live alone in a mansion while their parents have been “on a cruise” for as long as anyone can remember.
The spinoff also reflects the current reality at the Beverly Hills school, where about 40 percent of the students are of Persian descent: One of the students in the show is named Navid Shirazi.
To get the high-profile project ready for the network’s “upfront” presentations to advertisers in May, CW and producing studio CBS Paramount Network TV began casting before the script’s completion, a practice employed by other networks during the abbreviated post-writers’-strike pilot season.

We've checked in with sources to dig up some exclusive info on the project—the timing, the characters, the premise and more. So slap on your best acid-wash jeans and fluorescent banana clip and keep reading for the goods...
According to CW insiders, Rob Thomas’ outline has already been written and delivered, but the pilot script is expected on Monday, if not before the end of the week. The CW will most likely fast-track the series for fall. In fact, producers have been given just two weeks to cast it, and yes, that process will probably include the hiring of a couple of old 90210 favorites!
Tori Spelling and Ian Ziering have already said they'd be happy to come on board. And word is, Mark Piznarski, who directed the Veronica Mars pilot (and inspired Chris Lowell’s character, Piz) will helm the first episode.
As for the characters:
The "Jim Walsh": Harry Mills is a teacher who has a real do-gooder way about him and is considered the “cool parent.” Sounds a little more like Sandy Cohen than Jim Walsh, actually.
The "Cindy Walsh": Celia Mills gets work as a personal trainer in Beverly Hills, where she likely interacts with many a guest star. She usually plays the disciplinarian role in the family.
The "Brenda Walsh": Annie Mills is into theater acting, just like her predecessor. But instead of "Color Me Badd," she’s listening to emo bands. She yearns to fit in with the alternative crowd but leans a lot on her adopted brother, Dixon, too.
The "Brandon Walsh": Dixon Mills was taken in by the family about six years ago and has grown close to his adopted sister, though she originally didn’t want him around. He’s very bright, driven and well adjusted, but when in foster care, he definitely had the Ryan Atwood gene, getting into fights weekly. They’re looking for a minority—black or mixed race—for this role.
The "Kelly Taylor": Daphne Silver's character goes simply by “Silver” (so you know who she's related to, right?) and has a popular YouTube series à la LonelyGirl15 (in a bikini). She and Annie become fast friends, and she pines for Annie’s brother, Dixon, hoping to be the first Jewish girl at Beverly Hills High with a black boyfriend.
The Newbies: Navid, the Persian kid, is the executive producer of BHHS’s television newscast. Forget the Blaze, it’s all about TV journalism now. He’s a total politician and can fit in with every group in school. Meanwhile, Ethan Ward is the dim-witted popular boy who falls from grace when his bitchy and spoiled girlfriend, Naomi, destroys his reputation at her Sweet 16 party in the pilot. His attention will soon turn to Annie.
Instead of the Peach Pit, the kids hang out at the Silver Screens Theater (yes, owned by Silver’s family) in the Century City mall, where Annie gets a job as a concessionaire. (Shades of Fast Times, no?) Max, Silver’s 24-year-old brother, runs the place, and we soon realize he’s hiding a secret...something about their missing parents.
So...thoughts? Comment below. Sad to not see more tie-ins with the original 9-0 crew? Here's hoping that Daphne Silver has a cousin named Erin, half sister of David Silver and Kelly Taylor, who often stops by to say "What up?"...

LOS ANGELES - Get ready for the drama. “Veronica Mars” creator Rob Thomas, who wrote the pilot for the as-of-yet-untitled “90210” spin-off, recently revealed some of the plot details to People.
“The guy who gets hired as the new principal brings his family of four from Kansas to Beverly Hills. The principal, himself, graduated from West Beverly High School,” Thomas told People. “The grandmother — the principal’s mother — is a Julie Christie-like actress who is once again going into rehab.”
The family will have two children, one of which is expected to work, likely at a movie theatre, Thomas said, although there may be more employment opportunities of the restaurant variety.
Thomas also said he hopes to bring back “90210” diner — The Peach Pit.
More rumored plot details have also surfaced. According to a report by E! Online, the pilot will include a brief appearance by a young high school character named Hannah Zuckerman-Vasquez — the child of none other than “90210” original cast member Andrea Zuckerman (Gabrielle Carteris).
Hannah reportedly appears in a quick scene as the host of the school’s news show, “Blaze.”
In addition, at least one of the original West Beverly Hills alumni may return, as well.
“There is a plan for bringing back one of the cast members,” Thomas said, noting none of the original stars had been approached.
One former cast member who certainly wouldn't mind a return to West Beverly is none other than Donna Martin — aka, Tori Spelling.
“I would love to be a part of it,” Tori told Access Hollywood.
She even has some ideas about whom she could play.
“Who would I play? I would play the sexy (mom) obviously,” Spelling laughed. “Every teen drama has a (hot mom) — stepmother of course because I couldn't possibly have a teenage daughter.”
And the actress, whose father produced the original, is thrilled to hear of its return.
“I think it's a good idea,” Spelling told Access. “‘90210’ was really the first of its kind, the first teen drama. It kind of laid the way for other shows — ‘Dawson's Creek,’ ‘The OC.’”

CW star DUSTIN MILLIGAN ("Runaway") has the prestigious distinction of being the first actor to join the network's planned spinoff of "Beverly Hills 90210," Entertainment Weekly reports.
Dustin, who also appeared in last year's horror-thriller 'The Messengers,' will play a "likable, genuine ... star athlete" named Ethan, according to the show's producers.
News came at the end of last month that the as-yet-untitled show will, like the original, center on a family (this time it's the Mills instead of the Walshes) who moves from the Midwest to Beverly Hills and will revolve around the clan's two teen kids -- a boy and a girl -- who are the same age.
But this time around, the patriarch, Harry Mills, is a Beverly Hills High alumnus who moved after graduation to East St. Louis, but must return to the infamous zip code when his alcoholic 1970s movie star mom begins to spiral downward. Along for the ride -- Harry's wife, Celia, a former Olympic medalist; biological daughter Annie; and adopted son Dixon.
And while none of these kids appear directly related to characters from the original series, it is nevertheless curious that 16-year-old Daphne Silver and her older brother, Max Silver, have the same last name as David Silver (BRIAN AUSTIN GREEN), who married Donna Martin (TORI SPELLING) in the '90210' series finale.

From Teen Vogue To 90210?

This is only marginally fashion-related, but you'll like it anyway:
Current Teen Vogue intern and Degrassi starlet Stacey Farber is taking some time off her job assisting the website to do something very important:
Audition for the upcoming 90210 sequel in L.A.
If she gets cast, she might get to wear actual designer clothes, instead of the Wet Seal variety she sports in every Degrassi episode (in fact, we've only spotted one designer item, ever, on that show - a pair of Rock & Republic jeans on the scrawny butt of Emma).
And although this whole project sounds a lot like The O.C. without the sense of humor, it should still be really fun.
If Stacy gets the part, maybe she'll go from Teen Vogue intern to Teen Vogue cover girl... just like Lauren Conrad?

Hey, Carol Potter, it's time to pass the baton!
Sources confirm to me exclusively that Lori Loughlin has been tapped to play "the mom role" on the CW's upcoming 90210 update. She joins a growing cast that includes Runaway's Dustin Milligan and Nip/Tuck's AnnaLynne McCord.
Assuming CW doesn't veer too far from Rob Thomas' original vision — his pilot script is currently undergoing a rewrite by What About Brian's Gabe Sachs and Jeff Judah — Loughlin, 43, will play Celia Mills, an ex-Olympic athlete who relocates to Beverly Hills with her husband (BH High's new principal) and two children. As first scooped by my frenemy at E!, Hilary Duff has been approached to play Loughlin's daughter, Annie.
This isn't Loughlin's first dalliance with an Aaron Spelling property. The former Full House inhabitant starred in the Spelling-produced Summerland, which lasted two seasons on the WB.
Thoughts on Loughlin as Cindy Walsh 2.0? Thumbs up? Thumbs down? Thumbs in between? Sound off below!

Is Hilary Duff the next resident of the new Beverly Hills, 90210? The singer-actress-mogul might just be in talks to play one of the leading ladies at West Beverly High, says E!.
The role Duff is rumored to be eying is that of Annie Mills, who's into acting, emo tunes and fitting in with the artsy crowd. If the rumors are true, Duff would be joining Runaway's Dustin Milligan, who's been cast to play Ethan, the big man on campus.
Can you picture Duff on the West Beverly campus? Would she be the type of new generation 90210er you're dreaming of? Or is she just "So Yesterday"? — Anna Dimond

Arrested Development fans may want to keep an eye on the Beverly Hills, 90210 spinoff in the works at CW. Jessica Walter, who played the nutty, booze-soaked Lucille Bluth on the Emmy-winning Fox comedy, will play Tabitha, the grandmother, in the highly-anticipated drama from executive producer Rob Thomas. The spinoff is expected to revolve around the Mills family of Beverly Hills whose matriarch, Tabitha, is a 60-something has-been actress and alcoholic. Tabitha's adult son, Harry, moves back to Beverly Hills to care for his mother. Joining him are his wife Celia (Lori Laughlin, Summerland), an Olympic athlete-turned-personal trainer, and their two 16-year-old children, Annie (Degrassi: The Next Generation's Shenae Grimes) and Dixon (who has yet to be cast).
