A Closer Look: Emily
SOW talks to NL about her last scenes.
SOW says Nik decorates the ballroom and conjures up a beautiful vision of Emily.
Natalaia Livingston says he's in a tux waiting for her and she's in a beautiful dress, not a ball gown, but it's pretty. The whole thing from set design to wardrobe is pretty. Nik doesn't want it to be goodbye but he's waiting for the final dance.
SOW asks if Nik finally accepts her message and decides to go on without her.
Natalia Livingston says that Emily has been trying to make him realize he can live without her, love again and lead a meaningful life for the last few months. She's asking him to promise he will do those things.
SOW wants to know if the farewell is sad or hopeful.
NL says it's both. It's hopeful because it's the reason she kept coming back, to give him hope. It's sad because they were the loves of each other's lives and they're saying goodbye, which you don't get to do in real life.
SOW mentions that Emily appears to him again briefly on May 7th.
NL explains that it's much different than the dancing scenes which are the real final farewell and that the May 7th scenes are just a quick appearance right before his surgery.
SOW asks if the dance is packed with flashbacks.
NL confirms it is, there's a montage with their most memorable scenes which she's happy about because Emily's funeral montage was shorter. She says the fans will have great things to remember them by, because the montage is happy and joyful and goes way back to their early relationship when Nik would have these balls and Emily was just fantasizing about him and wishing she could be the woman he was dancing with. And her wish came true, he became the man of her dreams and she became the woman of his. So this last dance has a lot of meaning.
SOW asks if this is the romantic ending fans were hoping for.
NL says she hopes so. She thinks Nem are the embodiment of romance, so the dance is incredibly romantic as well. She really hopes Nem fans like it.
According to Bob Guza, we shouldn't miss the May 1st episode!
Guza poses the question of what happens to Max who supposedly swore undying devotion to Carly, when Sonny finds out he slept with Diane.
Guza says the scene with Max, Jason, Diane and Sonny where it all comes out had him literally on the floor watching the taping. He says he wanted to call Brian Frons and ask him for another hour. "'I'm just going to let these four people rip on this one issue of Max having slept with Diane.' It was unbelievably funny."
Kate Pays Off Michael's Shooter!
Nik shocks Kate by telling her he shot Michael but Kate pulls a shocker too by paying him to leave town.
MW says that Kate is taking this risk to "save Sonny's soul."
Her misguided effort starts after Johnny's failed attempt on Sonny's life makes him even angrier than he was before. MW says Kate can see that Sonny is going into his dark place and she only so much leverage with him to keep him out of it. Kate truly believes violence won't fix anything, it won't fix Michael. Instead of taking that bait, why not try and stop the mob war and try to keep the truce alive. Sonny doesn't want to listen to her, however.
That doesn't stop him from accepting her comfort though, so they have sex.
Afterwards Sonny tells Kate, again, that he won't change and she can walk if she wants. MW says that he puts it on her to take it or leave it.
Kate waits for him to come back from some business and that's when Ian shows up. "Ian decides that the one way he can save his skin is to escape, and he wants Kate to pay him off so Sonny won't kill him."
MW says that Kate is very conflicted about paying off Michael's shooter. She's conflicted about taking Sonny's closure away, but she believes she's in a position to change the course of Sonny's life. She doesn't want him to go to jail because he's claustrophobic and she doesn't want him to kill someone in order to take vengeance.
The cost of Sonny's soul is 1 million dollars and where would Kate get that money? Well, who would miss a stray million from Crimson's accounts?
LW wants to point out an important fact, in the aftermath of the shooting...
it's only been three days to the character's. It's been weeks for us watching it, but it's only been about three days for them playing it. Everyone else has changed clothes but Carly and Jason, though SBu never changes "He looks the same 24/7. He just has different colored T-shirts."
It was SBu who instigated a scene that Wright confides they kind of changed a little. Steve felt very strongly that everyone is writing Michael off and it hasn't even been a week. So she has a great scene with Jax where she asks him why he's so willing to give up on him and accept the worst-case scenario. LW doesn't know a mother in the world who would say to pull the plug.
She says there are some heartbreaking but hopeful scenes coming up where Jax tries to get Carly to let Michael go to a permanent-care facility. LW says that Carly apologizes for being mean to Jax and tells him she needs him more than anything but she needs him to at least have hope that she's right, he doesn't have to believe her but can he at least hope it will happen. Jax tells her he can do that. It's a nice beat because Steve's point was that everyone's written Michael off and it's a good point.
Revolving Door
Out
NL shares a last dance with Nik and exits on May 7th. She says the last 5 years have been the best of her life. Emily's cancer story was her favorite because it challenged her and she got to do a lot of breast cancer walks and charity events.
She says she's not going to another soap right now, she loves daytime and she's considering coming back at some point. She's already had offers from some shows. She wants to audition for movies and primetime now.
Emergency Recast
Viewers needn't worry, JT will be back on May 2. He took a temporary leave for "personal reasons" and was replaced by Ethan Erickson.
Crazy Rumors of the Week
A heartbroken Liz will return to GH's Lucky and Jake will turn out to be his son after all.
Facebook Fracas!
SOW reports on the flame war that erupted in Sarah Brown's Facebook for her character Claudia. They were sent a string of posts from an anonymous e-mail and it started on when a fan posted a video with a description calling Claudia "Claudisleeper."
They say SBr lashed out and told the fan to "get a life" and later asked her friends list to send her a list of "known haters" so she could delete them from her Facebook page.
The anonymous e-mail cracks that SBr must be feeling bad because Claudia is a flop and she can't handle jokes about the character on a Facebook page made for the character. Others say good for SBr for being accessible via the page.
The only thing everyone agrees on is that what happens on Facebook doesn't stay on Facebook.
Editor's Opinion
SOW Editor Joe Diliberto says that like Winnie-the-Pooh Nik decides he no longer needs his imaginary friend Emily and it's about time. He's not denigrating the process of grieving but he's not sure what stage of the Kubler-Ross spectrum "Make Out With Love One's Ghost" falls on. Nik has a future, as personified by his son and Nadine the hot nurse, so it's time to grow up and leave his ghostly Pooh... er, Boo, behind.
Buzz
MW says that KS and JMB are both very talented. She says that Kate sees herself in these girls and she gets to be their teacher and mentor. Kate can even be a witch if she wants to, to teach them tough love. The only drawback is that MW still thinks she's 25 in her head and then she sees them and thinks "d**n! I'm old. I don't know the clubs. I don't know the music. I'm busy singing nursery rhymes and taking my baby to Mommy & Me!"
The List/Winners & Losers
Of all people, surely bodyguard Max, would lock the door before having sex with the boss' lawyer on the boss' couch!
Winner:
Carly. She blasted Sonny for his violent lifestyle.
Loser:
Carly. But Jason the hit man can still do no wrong.
Rage Page
A viewer rages about Michael being shot in the head and put in a coma to age him and Dylan Cash being let go. Says he's been a joy to watch and loved watching him grow up and he's a wonderful actor. Begs GH not to let Michael die or to let go of DC or they'll do what they've been threatening to do for a while, quit watching the show and so will many people they know. They are furious!
Public Opinion/Mail Call/Viewers' Voice
A letter from a viewer who was horrified by the April 4th episode of GH and Michael's shooting. They don't understand how GH thinks that's entertainment or would make someone want to tune in on Monday to watch the devastation that follows. The violence on GH has hit an all time low and it's torture to watch it these days. They can't remain invested in a show that leaves them depressed at the end of the day.
Mail Call:
Fans are outraged by Michael's shooting.
Viewers' Voice
Should Lulu be with Logan or Johnny?
76% Logan
24% Johnny
Miss: They Shoot Children, Don't They?
Joe Diliberto says GH's obsession with mayhem backfired by shooting Michael.
It's one thing to have fully grown adults play gangster, by the likes of never specifying what Sonny's criminal enterprise actually is but another entirely to victimize children. He doesn't understand how shooting a 12 year old is entertainment. Too many of GH's stories involve kids and violence, Michael just shot Kate, was this poetic justice?
Maybe it was a gambit for Emmy reels for the actors but viewers had to watch through tears of outrage and sadness. The only interest the audience has is in Michael recovering which means they want the story to end.
Especially since the story is ultimately pointless. Nothing is going to shock Sonny out of the life. It's never going to be about The Adventures of Michael Corinthos, Coffee Importer. His kids were kidnapped years ago but the "shipments" go on. The only value is momentary shock value. The ulterior motive could have been to age Michael but he could have been sent to summer vacation and came back as an emo 17-year old with floppy hair.
GH took a shot at telling yet another violent story, but this one definitely backfired.
