Exclusive: Murray, Burton exit 'One Tree Hill'

It looks like One Tree Hill newlyweds Peyton and Lucas are about to embark on a permanent honeymoon.

Sources confirm to me exclusively that Chad Michael Murray and Hilarie Burton, whose characters tied the knot in last night's penultimate episode, will not be returning for the show's seventh season next fall. The CW is expected to formally announce their departures next Thursday at its upfront presentation.

Murray and Burton have been engaged in rather high-profile contract negotiations for the past several months. Ultimately, a deal couldn't be worked out and both actors will make their final appearances in next Monday's season finale.

To fill the void next season, a Hill insider tells me that two new characters will be introduced. Additionally, Austin Nichols (Julian) is being promoted to a series regular.

I didn't know Chad was leaving too. Wow. Well, I'm happy though that Leyton fans get their happy ending and that both actors will be leaving together rather than the couple splitting when it's already known that Burton is leaving.

Eh, I doubt the two new characters will work out well. It would be much better if they bring more of a focus to the characters already on-screen.

I do wish that, the show knowing the odds of them both not coming back, had given them an exit.

I'm glad they're leaving. They are so boring. And I have never once bought them as a couple. He was her best friend, not her soul mate. Jake is the one for her. And as for Lucas...he's the guy for Brooke Davis.

I'm gonna miss Peyton/Brooke hardcore but that's about it. Won't miss the rest of Peyton.

The only time I liked Peyton was when she was with Jake. I know this is awful, but I want her to die. Brooke deserves to be the star of the show and I am psyched that Austin Nichols is going to be a regular. I want Stephen Colletti and Kate Voegele as regulars too!

As for Lucas, yeah well, I like Nathan better

The thing with OTH was nobody was ever the star. It was a group.
